
Timothy Whalen is an intellectual property attorney whose practice is mainly focused on patent preparation and prosecution in several industries and technological areas, with emphasis in the mechanical and chemical arts; trademark and trade dress prosecution; and license and settlement agreement negotiation.
Technical Expertise and Professional Background
Tim obtained a B.S. in general chemistry and mathematics at Willamette University, where he was awarded the Chester F. Luther scholarship for excellence in mathematics, and worked as a lab instructor in the organic chemistry teaching labs. His undergraduate theses addressed advances in fullerene chemistry, and knapsack cryptographic systems.
After graduation, Tim worked with faculty and students in the Chemistry Department at the University of Nevada in Reno to develop the instructional organic laboratory curriculum, and to test and integrate new laboratory techniques and instrumentation.
In law school, Tim worked on the UCLA Law Review, first as Executive Editor, and then as Chief Articles Editor. He also served as Treasurer for UCLA’s Journal of Law and Technology. After his second year, Tim clerked for Kolisch Hartwell, and accepted a full-time position with the firm upon graduating.

Tim enjoys playing racquetball, listening to music, watching films, restoring his home, and outdoor activities, including golf and biking.
