Peter E. Heuser

Intellectual Property Attorney

Peter E. Heuser, patent
attorney, Kolisch Hartwell P.C.

Pete Heuser has been practicing as an intellectual property attorney for over 30 years. He is a mechanical engineer by training, having received his Bachelor’s degree from the U.S. Merchant Marine Academy at Kings Point, New York. He attended law school at the University of Wisconsin, and graduated in 1975. Pete represents a number of Oregon and Northern California companies, handling all of their intellectual property needs, including patent prosecution. However, he has spent most of his career as a litigator, handling patent, trademark, copyright, trade secret, and cybersquatting matters. He has represented both plaintiffs and defendants in jury trials, and has been successful in obtaining major jury verdicts for his clients.

Pete’s efforts have been recognized by colleagues at other firms, who have retained him to assist in their own intellectual property cases as an expert witness, and who have, according to a recent survey by Oregon Super Lawyers® magazine, named him one of the top 50 attorneys in the state. Pete has also received formal training in mediation at the Straus Institute of Dispute Resolution at Pepperdine University, and has volunteered for the Oregon District Court as a mediator of intellectual property cases. He has also recently been asked by the U.S. District Court for Oregon to assist as a Special Master in intellectual property litigation.

Originally practicing in the Midwest, Pete is a member of the Wisconsin and Illinois State Bars. After moving to the Pacific Northwest in the early 80’s, he became a member of the Idaho and California State Bars. He is also a member of the Oregon State Bar, and is registered to practice before the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office. For years, Pete taught intellectual property and related courses at the University of Oregon Law School, and is a two-term past president of the Oregon Patent Law Association. He is active in civic matters as well, having served as president of the City Club of Portland, a 2000 member organization whose members perform unbiased research on ballot measures and other local and state-wide issues. Pete is a member of the Bicycle Transportation Alliance, and has enthusiastically encouraged Kolisch Hartwell employees to join him in commuting by bike.
